It’s pretty hard to keep your audience … or certainly grow it … if you fail to show respect for their intelligence.
The excessive promotional pap CTV is foisting on its audience during its 6 p.m. nightly newscast as the Junos approach is the fastest channel-clicking motivator I have seen on TV since Gilles Duceppe’s far-too-frequent moments in the last English election debate.
I won’t go into detail of the mind-numbing attempts of News at 6 to promote the awards show, to be broadcast on CTV, because that would just give their “coverage” more attention.
Suffice it to say, in my view, they insulted CTV News at 6 viewers … in what looked like an attempt to disguise as actual news self-serving advertising and promotion.
All of it in between other self-serving “coverage” relating to CTV’s giveaway of pins marking their upcoming Olympic coverage.
This is news? Chris Gailus and the gang at Global can sleep easy.
It all looks like something contrived by “experts’ who never watch the show and have little respect for those who do.

similar happenings (but different) on CITY’S Breakfast Show…on the banner below the happenings….reads “you could advertise here”
Next thing you know…CTV’s going to be shamlesly promoting 2010 in their news!
(Response: No, Frosty … they wouldn’t stoop that low, would they? ho)

Seriously, what is a JUNO and why do I care?
(Response: LOL. I’ve always regarded the Junos as a get together where CBC types get together and give each other awards to compensate for the lack of ratings for many of their ratings. LOL. Why should you care? Not about the Junos themselves, but as a viewer, I think it tells you a lot when a station you’re watching, and will be carrying the Junos, seems to take you for an idiot as it endlessly and shamelessly promotes itself on what is supposed to be a news show, which you have invited into your home. h.o. )

I believe you mean the Genie awards, as they are the TV equivalent. Juno’s are awrds for Canadian music, though one has to wonder if CBC shouldn’t be up for one this year as the have to sing Harper’s tune.
(Response: LOL! I love your last point. And thanks for the correction of what the show is actually about. However, my main point remains .. the shameless promotion over and over again of any program on their NEWS show disrespects their news as well as the viewers. h.o.)

But then, I do not watch the TV station presenting the Junos, in fact I am seriously contemplating not renewing my cable TV. And this from a TV junkie!
(Resonse: Well there are some good channels … Discovery, History, Natl Geog etc … even the major nets have some good shows occasionally … and, although it’s nothing like it used to be, we still need the news. So stay… and keep fighting ..let them know what you think. And I know THEY are reading this blog.
h.o.)

If I could just get CBC (my patriotic bent), Knowledge, PBS (Seattle & Detroit), Discovery, History, BBC, Natl Geog etc., I would, but I have to subscribe in packages which I have to take garbage channels too!
With the Internet, I can watch almost anything and I believe cable TV must change their ways or they will be left behind, wanting government handouts for a product no one wants.
God, sounds like our present economy!
