Merry Christmas! And Help Save the Whales!

December 24th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I have never been terribly politically correct … so instead of Happy Holidays, I’ll say it loud and clear:

MERRY CHRISTMAS!  HAPPY HANUKKAH!!

And in keeping with my penchant for political incorrectness, I’d like you to join me this Christmas/Hanukkah in helping the chartitably unrecognized, politically persecuted Sea Shepherd Society in its current campaign to  Save the Whales.

What a horrible sight when these magnificent mammals of the sea, despite a supposed world-wide ban on hunting them, are still chased down and slaughtered by the HUNDREDS each year by Norwegian whalers ignoring the world and  by Japanese whalers, ostensibly for “research”.

“Research” that ends up on the dining tables of Japanese and Norwegian homes and restaurants. And most of the world’s powers say little or nothing … fearful of hurting their political/business links with Japan or Norway.

And this winter, the Japanese fleet have just embarked on a mission: announcing their intention to kill MORE WHALES THAN EVER since the supposed ban on whaling began in 1986.

The Norwegians  this year, were only able to find/kill 533 whales … down from their self-proclaimed limit of 1,052.  Whale stocks are clearly dwinding: the world ban must be enforced!

And you and I can speak up, act ..and help!

I know there are many worthy charitable causes that help people, and also provide a tax-deductible receipt.  I also support many of those.

But I do not forget the slaughter of the whales .. and I hope you will join me.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is headquartered in Friday Harbor, Wash. … but its founder and leader is Captain Paul Watson of Vancouver.  Because of the nature of its cause and its actions, it is denied charitable tax deductible status in Canada … although granted it in the U.S. … but that just means it needs more help than ever from those in this country who care.

On Christmas Eve, and on Christmas Day the BBC (Vancouver Shaw Channel 36) will feature a documentary entitled Jonah and the Whalers on the continuing slaughter. I urge you to watch for it.

Right now, the Sea Shepherd volunteer crew of 40, are in Antarctic waters pursuing and exposing the actions of the Japanese whalers, who are in the midst of their annual slaughter they hoped no one would witness..  The Japanese fleet have almost unlimited government funding; the Sea Shepherd survives on a meager budget, raised from individual donors, who want to END the slaughter of these magnificent whales by exposing the totally unnecessary devastation of these magnifcent animals.

Fuel costs alone are enormous! And without the help of people like you and me, the Sea Shepherd ship will have to tie up too early in port, leaving the whales to be slaughtered without interference.

And why not wish them too a really Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!
