Keeping it Real…

Would someone in Ottawa please wake up Stephane Dion! 

His best 2008 election issue is being handed to him on a platter this month, as Canada’s oil bandits are forced by law to publicly declare their first quarter profits. 

Petro Canada, traditionally the worst performer of Canada’s major four oil companies, has reported a profit of $1.08 BILLION for the first three months of the year, and remember, that’s after their best accountants and tax lawyers have helped them  cut and write off every penny they can.

Canadians are steamed … and we can’t wait to see the profit pictures of the other corporate oil company robbers, draining us  dry with phony excuses and manufactured crises to push up the price of oil and gas.

Other oil companies around the world are reporting similar outrageous exploitative profits, squeezed from the suffering they have imposed on the world’s consumers … most of whom cannot realistically avoid being gouged. 

And remember Canada’s oil companies reported huge profit increases last year as well!!! But that didn’t stop them from bleeding us for more and more at every opportunity (real of imagined) this year again. Does the corporate greed of the oil companies know no bounds? Apparently not!

The proof  of this is in the oil companies’  own reported figures: they quite clearly have NOT just been passing on extra costs at the wellhead; they have added billions to their revenues and padded their pockets at the pumps,  by  exploiting the critical needs and suffering of consumers hooked on their products by both economic and lifestyle necessity.

And billions MORE in profits will no doubt be recorded in the coming months as  prices are pushed even higher to exploit the summer vacation travels of Canadian families.

Perfect for Liberal Leader Stephan Dion … if someone would only wake him up and then instill a little passion into his political delivery!

Get out of Ottawa, Stephan!  Few Canadians pay much attention to anything said in the House of Commons anymore.

Get away from the Parliament Hill press gallery, who are often so jaded and bored with it all, they have forgotten how to take up and reflect the public’s outrage.

Get out across the country, Stephan, NOW … take up our cause! 

Demand heavy windfall taxes to take back from the oil companies MUCH of the illegitimate profits they have sucked from Canadians. And push the federal government to pass those new revenues on to Canadians in immediate tax cuts to help us absorb higher oil and gas costs. 

Stephan, you would literally have the Harper government over a barrel! There is NO WAY the Conservatives would ever impose windfall profit taxes on Alberta-based oil companies. 

 But Stephan, YOU can do it! Your party will not do well in Alberta next election in any case; and by championing for Canadian consumers, your political stock would SOAR  in vote rich Ontario,  Quebec and just about every other province  (except oil-booming Newfoundland). It would be brilliant political stand to take! And a just one as well.

However, Stephan, you MUST say it all with passion.  Throw away those stilted, written speeches and the prepared notes we often see you clumsily reading from … revealing to all that you likely did not write them …  and can’t really pronounce well either.

Start speaking  from your HEART, not your script, Stephan.  Tell us exactly HOW you feel, WHAT you are thinking, EXPLAIN your solutions, CHAMPION our cause against the oil companies, and TRAVEL the country explaining your stand, calling for action and seeking public support for your stand.

You would not be disappointed at all in the outcome! And  Canadian consumers .. and voters .. would finally have a HERO ready, willing and able to take on the oil companies .. with PASSION!
