I know most of us are not Pierre Poilievre fans.
But after 10 years in power, are we such great Carney/Liberal fans that they deserve another four years in charge … bringing their term in power up to 14 years?
I say no.
Four more years of squeezing the middle class despite families and seniors REALLY hurting; four more years of doing nothing to address Court bail and sentencing failures that have left many citizens afraid to venture into their own downtowns … even during the daytime; four more years of druggies and dangerously mentally ill running amok without any serious attempts/programs to address their illnesses; four more years of pandering and shelling out billions of tax dollars to First Nations, with almost no audited accountability required how/where the money goes; four more years of one-sided CBC far left activism bias; four more years of embarrassing Canada at the UN and other corrupted pro-Islamic international organizations by failing to stand up against their anti-Western anti-Israel biases; four more years of “liberal“ immigration policies that have allowed too many immigrants from third world countries to bring in their old hates and carry them out almost unimpeded in Canada; four more years of turning a blind eye to rampant anti-Semitism on university campuses; four more years of short-changing BC and Western Canada in Parliament and power; and, four more years of failing to make even a dent in Canada’s housing shortages that has made it impossible for younger Canadians to even dream of ever owning a home.
And maybe I have missed it, but has anyone seen any questions to Carney or coverage of the fact that the Liberal federal government has given Montreal $1.9 billion towards its 6 km long subway extension, but only $895 million to Vancouver’s 6 km long subway extension???
On on that basis, alone, how could anyone with a fair mind vote for another four years of the Liberals’ modus operandi?
Over the years I have voted Liberal many, many more times than I have voted Conservative, but I believe the Liberal party needs time in the penalty box to reflect, refocus and reform.
It’s time for change.
And Canadians should not allow Donald Trump to deter us from that!
We should give Poilievre and the Conservatives a chance.
Pass it on ….🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

In agreement that we need a change but unfortunately the Conservatives were totally unprepared to run a campaign that showed they were ready to govern. Probably will vote conservative because we have a good constituency MP.
Resigned to the fact it will be a Liberal majority, and more of the same for the next four years. Poilievre and Sigh will be gone before the next election, and quite possible the Conservative party, as we currently know it might not exist in four years. Not sure a liberal majority bodes well for Canada for rural Canada.
This morning I was watching Global Vancouver and the newscast had a vocal clip from Carney and just pictures of the other two leaders. I wonder who Global is backing. Sad for a media outlet. Monday will be a most interesting day. The coverage of the results start at 7pm in the East when it will be 4pm out West when the voting is still happening
The West gets it over and over again.
Global Media has been the Provincial NDP and the Federal Liberals shills for years.
They know where the advertising money comes from.
If the Conservatives are elected, the cash will flow to the media at the same rate, as it did in BC under the Liberals and the Socreds before them.
Exactly.
Which makes the media “shills” for …the Party de jour.
And the media wonder why their readers, viewers and listeners regard them with disdain and turn them off, tune them out and stop reading.
Gone are the days of hard hitting journalism.
Today?
6pm “news” involves 2 minute tiktok Puff pieces where TV News anchors lob, pre approved, soft ball questions at the candidate.
Then we go back to the nightly, 5 minute long “Colonizer bashing” guilt trip .
Global, cBc, whatever.
They are all the same.
(Response: I just want to thank everyone on here who participated in the discussions during the election campaign! Although people disagreed, the exchange of ideas and opinions was quite civilized… Something our neighbours south of us could never achieve these days. Glad I kept the blog going while I make my way on a ship 23 days to Vancouver. Social media CAN contribute seriously to democracy …giving the people a voice the corporate media does not.It will be great to be home!🇨🇦
An internal government report from Policy Horizons Canada warns that Canada could be a dystopia in 2040. It predicts a society of very limited social mobility, hungry Canadians who hunt and fish for food because groceries are too expensive, and intergenerational wealth. It really sounds like something out of a science fiction novel. The media has paid very little attention to it, but it is truly horrifying. Maybe people should read it and ask themselves if we want Canada to continue in the same direction.
When governments decide to rely on fear to win elections, there is a problem. It’s better to offer hope and to listen to voters. I’m very surprised that the report was released before the election. If I were Mark Carney, I’d be very unhappy about that.
It’s being reported this morning that when Carney had his discussion with Trump approximately a month ago that he failed to mention a comment was made about Canada becoming America’s 51st state. Just saying this here really bothers me.
A lie by omission. Why I don’t know.
For some reason this confirms my feelings about him. What else is lurking in the shadows?
Definitely time for a change. He is just like the liberals we’ve had for 10 years. i.e.
A Trudeau clone.
(Response: I certainly agree. It is time for a change. However, to be fair, I don’t blame Kearney for not raising the issue of some of the dumb comments that Trump has made: sometimes it’s better just to ignore them rather than initiate a confrontation …unless of course it is ever brought up at a bargaining table. Ho)
In spite of your “change” and apparent support of the conservatives, your prophecy from a few weeks ago appear to be coming alive.
You said back then, when Poilievre was flying high, a change in leadership and current affairs could resuscitate the Liberals.
Oldislander posted some polling results and here is an AP article agreeing.
https://apnews.com/article/canada-election-prime-minister-carney-trump-poilievre-9e74b1aa2749b2b5697997803fbcc66e?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-us
Monday could be over very quickly or be a nail biter.
You still have time to flop the flip.
(Response: No thanks. I still believe that within six months, the whole US versus the world global trade fiasco will be largely worked out, including with regards to Canada. Then we will be left with the government we have for another three years or more. I really do believe it’s time for change. For the reasons I outlined in my blog piece, another term of a Liberal government would just not be good for Canadian cities, citizens, crime the country as a whole. Better to give the Conservatives a chance… and both the Liberals and the NDP time to renew and rebuild. Ho)
10 years of Liberal Government have given Canadians a 69 cent dollar, broken healthcare, 4 million refugees without a plan, legalized hard drugs, crime and rot on our streets and double our national debt. Plus scandal after scandal after scandal!
Why would anyone want 4 more years of them and the return of the carbon tax for sure to pay for all the new and old policies?
Could somebody who is voting Liberal explain why all of the above means nothing to them whatsoever….. I can’t fathom it for the life of me.
You forgot mass immigration to drive down wages for the corporate elites, extreme environmentalist policies that attack our resource industries, a health care crisis, a housing crisis, a cost of living crisis and excessive bureaucracy. But the Conservatives are too religious and too conservative for many wealthy left-wing seniors, and the state media isn’t particularly neutral, so we’ll see what happens.
(Response: Actually , I believe seniors are some of the people most adversely affected by Liberal policies over the Trudeau Prime Minister ship. My CPP went up $10 a month last year … almost a joke when I had to pay my various fees/taxes (federal, provincial, municipal, regional, sales taxes,Hydro, carbon etc etc). Now, I realize that I have been very fortunate to have other savings that allow me to live a very comfortable retirement, but we have to think of those who are struggling so much and so hard under the burdens placed on them by various governments… Including the federal liberals. And adding insult to injury, the same seniors often can’t even go out of their homes for a walk in the park for fear of being harassed and even attacked because the federal government has fallen short on passing adequate laws and funding crime fighting, controlling the court system and making a mockery out of the entire jail system. It boggles the mind that even those who have voted liberal in the past (like me) would want another four years of the same! Ho)

Garth Turner ran an interesting poll in his ‘Greater Fool’ blog last week.
https://www.greaterfool.ca/2025/04/14/how-you-voted-2/
Garth describes his typical blog readers: “…we know from past surveys that the addicts who come here routinely are wealthier than most Canadians. They largely own real estate. They have a higher net worth. They skew older. There are more men.”
And so they probably lean right. This makes his poll results even more interesting. Here are graphs showing the results of his 10 basic questions.

I must say after I heard Jagmeet Singh make a speech, I thought, my can that guy lie likes it’s the most normal thing to him about all the grand things he’s going to do. He just doesn’t care as far as I can tell. It looks as though he actually relishes doing it and it’s just astonishing seeing many people behind clapping without a thought and being prompted by the team whip in front egging them on. It almost looks like a cult gathering chanting and clapping for thier master. I can see why Singh and his version of the NDP are so low in the polls. Now if there is one place that needs change, it’s that man. I am gobsmacked he’s still aloud to lead. That is definetly screwball crazy. They just keep going down. I wouldn’t be surprised if they extinct themselves. How can his team be so blind unless they are completely brainwashed cult type followers. It’s beyond loyalty there. But good I hope they go extinct as a party because they don’t deserve to be on the radar with outragoues lying going on from their leader in my opinion.
(Response: readers may recall that about a year ago, I wrote a blog calling for Singh to step down. Of course he did not, but I can’t help but think that had he done that, for the good of the party, the NDP could be in a position, this election to hold the balance of power … with a better leader. His decision to stay on may result in the NDP being eliminated as a political force this time around federally. Ho)
Yes such political suicide because of basically one person. Singh. I shake my head at that craziness.
(Response: Sometimes parties place loyalty to an individual over loyalty to their country or even to their own party’s future. Ho)
I forgot to mention that another reason to fire the Liberals is the debt. When Justin Trudeau took over, it was about $600 billion, and now it’s more than $1.2 trillion. Mark Carney wants to spend so much that many Canadians doubt he’ll ever balance the budget. Canadians need to vote for the Conservatives because they will be more fiscally responsible.
(Response: interesting opinion piece in the Winnipeg Sun about the growing debt and how the liberals may be planning to deal with it if they get reelected…. by taxing our primary homes. It’s just speculation… But when Canada mortgage and housing has already beenlooking at that very topic on occasion, it makes you wonder! Here’s the article: https://winnipegsun.com/opinion/columnists/klein-beware-the-next-liberal-tax-may-be-on-the-roof-over-your-head. Scary!! Ho)
I spoke yesterday ( sat Apr19) with friends in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and here in BC.
Very long line ups EVERYWHERE at the advanced polls.
Even Elections Canada has said there has been record turnouts all across Canada at the advanced polls.
I tried voting yesterday and saw the huge line up and kept going.
I’ll try again today.
What this indicates is anyone’s guess but I’m hoping a lot of people,…. after listening to 10 YEARS of the Liberal lecturing on anti colonialism, DEI rights, record deficits, etc etc etc. …….just want this incompetent cabal of champagne sipping socialists… gone gone gone.
I voted earlier today for the Conservatives.
Wasn’t it Einstein who stated that the definition of insanity is when a person continues to repeat the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?
This comment might sound like it belongs in your previous post Harvey.
The entire voting procedure took about 45 minutes. Not a problem. When I got to the table to get my ballot I provided my I D and the person had to verify my credentials in two separate folders. Then he had to cross my name out with his pen and a ruler in each folder, then he physically wrote my name out, by hand, into another binder, then referred me to his coworker who gave me my ballot.
Not a computer in sight. Is Election Canada living in the dark ages? It would have likely only saved a minute or two but multiply that by each voter and that could really speed up the voting process and maybe reduce those long lineups.
I don’t get it. Sounds like these guys need a complete overhaul.
(Response: If course, Elections Canada has its voters lists computerized: that’s how and where they get the voters cards from. Surely, they should be able to use those lists so that any voter can show up at any voting place in the country and have with their ID confirm who they are and have their vote recorded instantly… not set aside to be further verified and counted later … and without stroking their name off a printed list and then written by hand in a giant book. If they entered the modern age, that would even allow Canadians abroad to also take part in the supposedly Democratic process. If other countries can do it… so can Canada! They just have to be dragged into the modern age. Ho)
Just wanted to add that we voted late yesterday afternoon and were treated incredibly well. Due to health issues, my hubby is using a cane. While we were waiting in line, one of the workers from inside the school, brought out a chair for him to sit on. As the line moved, he would stand up and one of the people in front of us would move his chair ahead. We didn’t know any of them so that was really nice. Then after being in line for about fifteen minutes, one of the workers came and got us and put inside the school and in line to vote. Again a chair was brought for him and again, moved ahead. I couldn’t believe how nice and polite everyone was.
And yes I voted Conservative because it is the only chance we have to cleanse the country of what the Liberals have done to destroy it. I don’t trust the new snake oil salesman named Carney at all. He is Trudeau just a sneakier version from what I see. I hope we see change in this country as we really need it.
I pray more people will see that Carney and the Liberal government are still Trudeaus crew and he absolutely will he will have to bow and bend to that and even possibly Singh. Here we might have to go again, but
hopefully Carney loses though.
I truly believe Carney will follow like a road map in the destructive course of arrogant activist Trudeau and his arrogant extremists in trying to change the very social fabric and foundations of Canada. I see through Carney like glass and in my opinion he’s an elitist big wig banker and financial wizard n a nice suit who only knows about bean counting and crunching numbers. He’s a fancy high falutting concrete tower dweller with no clue on being tough on crime either,or even knowing what’s going on down on the street level beat. I truly believe that he will with the utmost probability make another try at taxing the hell out of the middle class starting with big hits on peoples home equity which the bean counting beauracrats like to pass off as capital gains and even go after anything that middle class working people have scrimped and saved and worked for. If any one is going to hurt the financials well being of say seniors and just regular families, it will be this cold beauracrat and bean counter from thecivory towers of his elite world. Carney may have that grand worldly education and experience in the big boys money market, but thats where he’s a danger. He won’t be using it for regular people and families. Those kind just don’t have that in them as part of their nature and makeup. He isn’t Trudeau as he says. Oh no, but he is Carney and will surely be this image and Trudeaus all mixed in, and he will come with Trudeaus and the partys extreme ideologies.
I wish people well in voting, but I personally do see through this guy and he will be dropping Trudeaus baggage on our heads and Singh, may well be there to help him and God help us. I never understand why people want to keep hurting themselves by voting for this sort of newly revised Trudeau. Voting for Carney and the Liberals will be no different than voting for Trudeau and the Liberals, except for a sneaker more worrisome one. The baggage looks new but it’s the same old stuff inside. I’m holding on for dear life because if Carney gets in we may as well go to Ottawa and leave our wallets and purses piggy banks at the doors of Parliament. I wont be the Canadian who votes for the same bunch that screwed us over, that wont hesitate to continue to do so.
(Response: I urge everyone who has a memory longer than three months passes my blog perception to everyone else who needs a reminder of how unhappy they have been for YEARS under the Liberals. As I stated, I myself have voted Liberal many more times than I have voted Conservative… but I really believe it’s time for change. Maybe only for one term, but to give another party a chance to show what they can do … and a message to the Liberals that “same old” just won’t do. Ho)
You summed that up perfectly. It just makes sense to let another team give it a go. If we don’t like them, then it’s the boot., and thats democracy. To go again with the same hand that slapped us just doesn’t make sense. Through al the tense political distractions we have going on. I feel better focused finally, with your eye for detail, when you mentioned awhile back, the fact that Trudeau may be gone but not the Trudeau team. It’s all mostly there and intact. That’s the big part we or myself anyways lost track of. That is the most important part. Carney just a fancy money and banker man in a nice suit with a nice smile and nice words to be used in a nicer more pleasant way to ply Trudeaus party trade and his together to screw us. I Went and voted with clear conscience just because I need to see the other side. I said to myself, why would I vote for the hand again that has made such a mess.
(Response: even though I have been denied my vote… And so have more than 100,000 other Canadians in the same situation as I am… I feel good that I have kept the blog going, even at sea… in the hope that it may even help a little bit in getting people to realize how important it is to get out and vote. Even if they don’t vote the way I have decided I would .. if I could. Ho)
Advance polls open but this rural resident has not received his voter card yet? Many of my neighbours also waiting? Redrawn riding has been public knowledge for quite awhile?
Advance polls here had full parking lots yesterday & a line up outside waiting to enter.
Butts, Telford & co., are the backroom hacks in Carney’s party, the same operatives we’ve watched pull the levers on Trudeau, just a figurehead swap with not much fresh policy except for the about face on the “make work for admin” carbon tax.
(Response m: I’m not sure but I believe you should be able to vote at any Election Canada location even without a voting card as long as you have ID. One thing Electiins Canada is good at is providing info on that … just call them … or your local candidate office.Ho)
I’d love to ask Mark Carney a few questions. My first question is why does he say that we might build more pipelines. Is he not sure? Can he build more pipelines if he won’t repeal anti-pipeline legislation?
Why has he decided that 80% of Canada’s oil and natural gas must stay in the ground? Can he explain the formula that he used to obtain the figure of 80% Why is it not a lower number like 50% or a higher number like 90%? My next question is if he actually knows how much oil and natural gas Canada has. Without that information, how can he ensure that no more than 20% of Canada’s oil and natural gas will be extracted? My final question concerns Brookfield. How much will Brookfield benefit by ensuring that only a small portion of Canada’s oil and natural gas will be used?
Of course I doubt anyone will ask him those questions, but if he reads this blog, he can see them here. Canada is rich in natural resources, but current policies have made it difficult to develop them. Perhaps he considers my questions irritating, but I’m sure there are Canadians who want to know.
(Response: You’re hired!! You seem to be raising real questions that I’m sure Canadians would like answers to … before they vote. Ho)
@ Harv – re transit.
The feds have kicked in 40% the cost of the Broadway subway and the Expo line extension to Surrey. The problem is cost overruns which the Feds do not fund and rightly so.
The problem is the Broadway subway is now going to cost $3.5 to $4 billion, over a billion dollars over the initial cost and the Expo line extension to Surrey is now around $7 billion (including OMC#5), which the feds will fund 40% of the original $4 billion cost. Remember the original cost was $1.63 billion for light rail and the Feds OK’ed funding for $4 billion for SkyTrain.
Also, recently announced $1.5 billion in federal funding for TransLink over 10 years.
The big problem, TransLink squanders the money and the BC government does little to prevent this, except beg for more money.
Compare this to the “Wee P’s” policy of zero funding for transit, period!
(Response: I’d bet Montreal will have overruns too!! And of course,Ottawa will be right there… with YOUR tax money … to bail them out! Ho)
From what I have been told, the federal money for transit is well vetted and the process depends heavily on what the province lobbies for. Montreal has a lot of expertise with subway construction and Vancouver does not. The Canada Line was a P-3 and the province kept out of the subway planning except to OK cut and cover. The Expo Line used a former railway tunnel and TransLink is learning on the taxpayer’s dime for the Broadway subway.
Personally I believe this will all change after the election, with the Conservatives stopping all Subsidies for transit (not a bad thing actually as transit will have to be built to meet a far stricter financial means) and the Liberals will divert transit monies to the military.
The one thing about this election is that I really do not believe any politcal promises because whoever is elected will face a completely new world politic and all the financial and social change that will entail.
As I stated before, I am voting for the lesser disappointment and have no illusions for the next 4 years.
Sorry, I disagree completely.
I was going to vote for the “Wee P”, but that changed with the ousting of Trudeau the younger and the coming of Trump.
I see the “Wee P’s” politic as a mini Trump regime, in fact his earlier politcal ads were Canadianized Trump/MAGA ads. I don’t want the chaos down south to continue with a parliament full of evangelical nutters, anti-vaxers and a Prime Minister who openly supported the Truckers insurrection.
Also a lot of disappointing Liberal MP’s are not running and the liberals will have a lot of new fresh faces to blow raspberries at.
The next four years are going to be a sea of discontent and we need a PM who is skilled internationally and not a PM who is seen as a weak Trumpian acolyte. The “Wee P” actually refuses to answer any CBC questions and does not allow follow up questions!
That gets my spidey senses tingling.
Basically I am voting for the lesser disappointment.
Nuff said.
@ Bendelmac The feds have dropped a lot of coin on TransLink, over $3 billion all told but the big difference is TransLink squanders the money, while in Montreal their transportation authority does not.
On a positive note, the NDP are headed for a wipe out and just maybe, just maybe the NDP will read the tea-leaves and update the party to meet 2030 problems and not re-fight stale 1990’s issues over and over again.
Went to vote early. There are line-ups galore outside the school. Told only FOUR booths inside to vote at and you go to the one that aligns with your card. How crazy is this???? Couldn’t they have opened up more schools and more booths??? We came back home after being told it’s close to two hours to wait! Will try later today again or tomorrow or ???
As for the huge turnout, usually it indicates a change in government. I sure hope it’s true and that Carney is voted out asap. Did anybody notice how uncomfortable and dorky he looked at the debates last night? And again, lies and non answering of questions. And this is the person we want (Trudeau again) as head of our government? How stupid is that choice!!!!!
(Response: I agree: a large turnout often does signal a desire for change of government. The question however is whether there’s a large turnout elsewhere in the country as well? And I hope the media are paying attention to the long lineups and difficulties people are having and trying to vote! This archaic system must be changed/improved! Ho)
Great piece …. and the money to Montreal for their rapid transit … Quebec just has to complain and the Liberals hand out more money to them … in the equalization payments Quebec get a major chunk of that money, most of it coming from the West. I hate to say it, but Quebec is like the natives … yell loud enough and the Liberals will hand you more money and no accountability and under Harper there was and Trudeau came in and eliminated that ….. and we in the West take it … I am voting Conservative today as the Voting is open …
(Response: Readers of this blog may remember, I was quite critical of Stephen Harper‘s shortcomings, especially after he too had been in the job too long. It’s amazing what happens to politicians that hang around beyond their “best before” dates! However, one thing I liked before Trudeau came in and eliminated it was the requirements that first nations band councils had to publicly account for the monies they received with open books. This was great, not just for all Canadians, but especially first Nations band members themselves who had long complained about some chiefs, abusing the money as they received and rewarding friends and relations. It was an absolute shame that Trudeau stupidly removed that requirement… I believed as a payoff to first nations leaders for their support in getting him elected. That should be restored. Ho)
It’s definitely time for a change. Mark Carney’s cabinet is almost the same as Justin Trudeau’s, he has the same advisors, and he was an advisor for Justin Trudeau. I have little reason to expect many changes under his leadership.
Donald Trump’s comments about Canada were always nonsense. In my opinion, the Liberals have used them to spread fear and to distract Canadians from their terrible record over the last ten years. The answer is not a man who wants to turn Canadians pockets inside out to achieve net zero carbon emissions. He is a self-proclaimed elitist, and Britain rejected him. He made a mockery of the independent central bank by promoting hysteria around Brexit. The reality is that he in his position as Governor of the Bank of England he should not have interfered but remained neutral.
It’s interesting that Mark Carney couldn’t get through the first debate without promoting his company Brookfield. When discussing nuclear energy, he suggested Westinghouse was doing good work but of course he failed to mention that Westinghouse is owned by Brookfield.
Brookfield is ready to receive a large part of Canadian gas, oil, pipelines, nuclear energy and billions of dollars for housing it can rent to Canadians. It owns the heat pumps that were promoted in eastern Canada. It also wants billions of taxpayer dollars for an investment fund. The parent corporation of Brookfield (Brookfield Corporation) has its headquarters in Bermuda.
The connections between Mark Carney, Elon Musk and Donald Trump are also interesting. The building Brookfield rents in New York is owned by the Kushners, Brookfield and the Trump have invested in pipelines in Qatar, and Brookfield loaned millions of dollars to Elon Musk so he could buy Twitter/X. Mark Carney is going to save Canada from Donald Trump, but at the same time, he and Donald Trump seem to have many connections in the business world.
If Canadians want the drug crisis to continue, more crime, more funding for the CBC and more foreign interference in our elections, Mark Carney is an excellent choice. However, if they want a change, the choice is clear. I say the Liberals don’t deserve a fourth term.
(Response: I have no doubt that we would find a lot to criticize and be unhappy about if Poilievre and the conservatives get elected… They all seem to have hidden agendas they don’t tell us about until after the ballots are counted! However, doing the same thing over and over and over again, and then complaining about the result is not an answer. It’s time to give the other major party a chance… And remember: we can throw those bums out if we’re unhappy next time around. But who knows, maybe they will succeed in lowering taxes, getting recidivist criminals to stay in jail and even coming up with innovative ideas to solve our housing crisis, so young people can at least have a hope of someday buying their own place.Ho)
Exactly. It beggars the mind to vote for the same people again that we were so angry with for letting and causing so much degradation of our society, by letting crime flourish and taxing people to death, namelynthe middle income class and then have that same bunch continue on that course. That’s insane.
